Six appeal for Market Rasen’s racing programme

The British Horseracing Authority has upgraded another race during Market Rasen Racecourse’s calendar to ‘Listed’ status.

It takes to six the number of such races – superior to all contests outside Graded category.

A new Listed mares’ bumper – a Flat race for jumps racehorses - will be staged at the opening meeting of the year on Wednesday, 17th January, 2018.

Staging this race further strengthens The Jockey Club’s commitment to supporting the racing industry’s strategy of expanding the mares programme.

The other five Listed races are the Summer Plate and Summer Hurdle which are run each July on Lincs FM Ladies’ Day, the 188bet Prelude Chase and Prelude Hurdle which take place at the end of September, and the 188bet Bud Booth Mares’ Listed Chase which is staged in early November.

The January fixture is the first of 22 meetings in 2018 at the Lincolnshire racecourse, the same number as in 2017 and with all the major dates retained.

Family Extravaganza

A good share of the prize-money on Lincs FM Betfred Summer Plate day headed to Wales from Market Rasen last month – and trainers in The Principality are set to come back for more this Sunday.

The racecourse is hosting the Nomad Trust Family Extravaganza.

Trainer Evan Williams sent out John Constable to win the Betfred TV Summer Hurdle and his compatriots Peter Bowen and Tim Vaughan have made half a dozen entries between them for Sunday’s seven races which begin at 2.25pm.

With the Pembrokeshire handler targeting one of his favoured racecourses once more, it’s likely that visitors will see Market Rasen ambassador – teenage jockey Sean Bowen – in the saddle again.

Entertainment for kids of all ages includes appearances from Paddington Bear at scheduled times throughout the afternoon, a children’s race on the track, a treasure hunt, Rand Farm Park children’s farm yard, a giant slide, giant assault course, toxic meltdown, super hero sumo suits, bounce house, small castle and slide and soft play.

A family pass – for two adults and their children for the Lawn Enclosure – can be ordered in advance for just £16 HERE or on 0344 579 3009.

On the day admission ranges from £10 to £21 for adults. Accompanied children get in free. Gates open at 12.25pm and the seven races are between 2.25pm and 5.40pm.
